LMAO, it’s not what you think……

Zeitgeist Art Gallery presents Land Mail Art Objects - An Exhibit

If you work in the post office you may have noticed envelopes or packages traversing through the system labeled LMAO, often followed by a series of numbers.  This is not a collection of jokes and the recipient is not expected to laugh off their posterior.  According toMeika's CD Post Card Nervousness.org, “We're trying to reacquire the misused acronym of LMAO and use it for good. Now, LMAO stands for Land Mail Art Objects.”  Members of this online community seek new ways for people to interact and communicate through art and the use of the world wide postal system.  Artist trading cards are exchanged, round robins of journals or decos are created, books are altered, postcards are created and a host of other creative collaborations take place around the globe.

From March 4 through 28, the Zeitgeist Art Gallery in Portland, Oregon, USA will be hosting an exhibit of Mail Art, largely provided by members of Nervousness.org.  “This exhibit has close to 200 participants, and features postcards, artist trading cards, journals, altered books, drawings, paintings, photographs, prints, stencils, and a wide variety of art objects and collaborative projects,”  said gallery owner Paul Fujita. “My friends on Nervousness.org, and elsewhere on the internet, have agreed to send in an enormous variety of art through the mail. Postcards, artist trading cards, and a multitude of arts and crafts media will be represented. Artists' books are traversing the globe and being filled as they make their way here where they will be added to. Parts of collages which are being worked on in many different locations are arriving in Portland and being assembled. Bring a piece of your own art to trade! There will be a few things to buy, but most everything is intended to be traded or given away.”

Opens Thursday March 4 from 6-11pm, and closes March 28.
