Cross and Wheat Rhea Egg

This Easter tribute comes from the Pysanky Showcase.  The design celebrates the resurrection.   The cross is red, which signifies divine love. The rays of light emanating from it signify the resurrection.  By using black, a color symbolic of eternity as well as death, as a background, the artist shows us the triumph of everlasting life over death.

Note that the smaller crosses within the diamond shapes are surrounded by dots.  Dots represent the tears of Mary during the crucifixion.  Other symbols used in this design include:

• Diamonds - knowledge 
• wheat - symbolizing good health and a good harvest
• nets - reminiscent of the fisherman's nets and Christ's words of becoming "fishers of people." 
• stars - symbolize growth and life
• triangles - symbolic of the Trinity            
• ladders - prosperity            
• ribbons - everlasting life
