If there is one thing country music legend Slim Dusty knows after 50+ years in the Australian Music Industry, it's that fans will ask you to sign anything. Along with the assorted programs, ticket stubs and album covers he has signed over the years, he can now add emu eggs.
Dave and Kathy Lauchlan of Baldivis West Australia commissioned Aboriginal Artist Tim Thorne (of Bunbury) to hand carve the egg. This one of a kind creation took many hours of work and according to Kathy, Tim states that he will not do it again. "It now has been signed by Slim Dusty and is our pride and joy," states Kathy. "The Concert was in a local city 15 minutes south of us called Mandurah. It has a new concert hall and the show was wonderful. Slim Dusty`s wife Joy and Sister in law Heather (McKean Sisters) and daughter Ann also sang in the show." Kathy went on to say that she and Dave were preparing to cross the Nullabor to attend the 9 day Tamworth Country Music Festival in January.
enthusiasm is understandable - Slim Dusty has recorded over 100 albums (most
with the same label, EMI) and is known as Australia's King of Country
Music. This national treasure was the first
Australian to receive a Gold Record and to have an international record hit (A
Pub with no Beer). He was also the first singer in the world to have his
voice beamed to earth from space when U. S. astronauts Bob Crippen and John
Young played his Waltzing Matilda from the space shuttle
"Columbia" as it passed over Australia in 1983. The list of
awards he has won is so extensive that we just don't have room here, so I'm
going to suggest that you visit his home
page for more information.
